Putting Claude to work on real files

  1. 01What Cowork sees and what it does not see10 min

    Cowork only modifies files in the folders you have connected, but it sees more than files: with your authorisation it takes screenshots of your screen, and from Chrome's side panel it sees the displayed page. Close or hide whatever has nothing to do with the task.

  2. 02Working on a copy, never on the original5 min

    Work on a copy, because Claude modifies the file itself, where it sits, and creates no backup behind the scenes. A rewrite does not require the confirmation a deletion does, so a silent error becomes more likely. Duplicate any document that must remain a reference before handing it to Claude.

    A skill is a specialisation Claude loads for a specific domain or a repeated way of doing something, written once. A plugin bundles several skills into a single installable package. Read the description before activating either: it is the only place where its author states what it does.

  4. 04Connectors, a direct link to a piece of software5 min

    A connector is an authenticated link between Claude and an external service, such as a mailbox, a calendar or a file space. Authorising it commits you beyond the current conversation, right up to your scheduled tasks, and on an organisation account an administrator sets the list of connectors offered.
